Iron Log #4
Hello again,
It's been a couple weeks since last update and I wish I had more to share. I spent about a week working on the save/load system which seemed easy at first. Then when you need to save which buildings are connected to other buildings (i.e. a building should output onto a specific belt) things get a little tricky. Saving everything is not bad, I created a unique ID for every building that gets placed in the world and save that as a reference. Then when loading I need to do two passes, one to load every building to get their unique ID and a second pass to connect everything up. It's nice to have something simple that works but as I add new content and types of buildings I'm definitely going to need to change the save system more in the future.
I also have been working on procedural terrain which is something I told myself I wouldn't need for an alpha release. It just feels like a big part of the game and a lot of games I've enjoyed the most have it so I really want to put this in. It's probably another couple of weeks of work if I'm being honest but we'll see...
As always, thanks for reading and head over to the discord to learn more https://discord.gg/xmmPeZHj4T
